Abstract
Objective
To evaluate the available evidence regarding the diagnosis and management of myofascial pain and to provide practical, evidence-informed guidance for clinicians treating myofascial pain.
Methods
An expert multidisciplinary panel performed a structured review of the literature addressing the definition, clinical features, diagnostic evaluation, and treatment of myofascial pain. Evidence was reviewed for physical examination findings, trigger point–based assessment, differential diagnosis, and commonly used therapeutic approaches, including exercise and rehabilitation, manual therapy, dry needling, trigger point injections, pharmacologic therapies, and multimodal interdisciplinary care. Recommendations were developed through a formal consensus process, with panel agreement measured for each statement. The strength of recommendations was informed by the quality of evidence, clinical applicability, safety, feasibility, and patient-centered considerations.
